Windmill Questions? (pics added)

I have been working on getting an old windmill up and going lately. This is the first experience I have with one and I have a couple of questions. I'm not sure what brand the windmill is.

1) I understand how the brake functions and how the tail attaches but there is a chain that comes from the gearbox and I can see that it attaches to the tail and the other end is attached to a rod in the gearbox but I don't really understand the function of this chain and rod.

2) Where is the best place to try to buy the actual pump parts that go into the well? I plan on putting it on an open curb well that is about 10' deep.

3) There is also a pipe down close to the bottom that extends into the middle of the windmill that pivots off of one of the uprights. My dad said he believes it was used to disengage and engage the pump from the ground but I dont know how to go about attaching it and what to attach it to.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The only brand name I'm familiar with is Aero.

I don't think the gear box ever comes disconnected from the pump rod. You stop pumping by pulling a lever at the bottom of the windmill tower that turns the "tail" to one side (right angle to the blades). That in turn forces the windmill blades to turn at 90° to the wind stopping (almost stopping) the blades from turning.

I suspect the "chain" you've found is the piece you need to connect your lever to that forces the tail to fold over to one side. I don't know what the "pipe" is unless it is some sort of guide for the pump rod.

I guess it goes without saying that you need to be darn sure you've got that tail, blade assembly and pivot firmly secured before you start working on it.

I don't know what part of Texas you're in but Chandler Water Wells in Yoakum deals with windmills from time to time. Do a Yahoo Yellow pages on Yoakum to get his number.

I've still got it laying on the ground right now while I'm working on it. I will try to get some pics up on here soon. The pipe is supposed to be used to move the tail I just don't know how to connect it. The rod is there for the pump but the actual part that goes into the well is missing.

On the old miolls that I messed with the chain was used to manually close the tail so that it would feather in the wind rather then relying on the brake during high winds. Any well company hsould have the foot valve, cylinder, lift pipe and sucker rod that you need.

The gearbox is stamped with Baker Manufacturing so I am assuming that is the brand of the complete windmill.

Here is a pic of the chain. As you can see it is attached to a small rod inside the gearbox while the other end currently is attached to nothing. I am assuming the loose end attaches to a slot on the tail.

Here are some pics of the pipe extending into the middle of the tower. As you can see it pivots on the post and has a wire loop that I am guessing you attach a line to but I don't know exactly how to attach said line to the top so that you can dissengage the mill from the ground.
