Anyone mess with the points on a credit card? I never messed with them myself and accumulated a lot of points and cashed them in for gift cards for Home Depot rather than buying any of the stuff they show in their magazine. It all looked overpriced. As it stands, I'm getting nearly $1500 to spend at Home Depot but I now I regret not asking if they did Bass Pro or Gander Mountain so I really get some real useful stuff. Stuff I NEED. ;-)

Anyhow, I've been needing a new drill and will pick one up for sure. Anyone know of any stuff they might NEED that you might not otherwise buy from Home Depot? I've read the scheme with gift cards is many people forget to use them and its a windfall for the company that issues them. I don't plan on letting this happen.
 
I've cashed my points in before and like you always selected Home Depot gift cards. Never had 1500 bucks but it has added it to several hundred. Usually end up spending most of it over in the lawn and garden area where my wife has a blast buying "exploding pocket hoses", dieing flowers and turkey shyt fertilizer with an analysis of something like 4-0-0 at $20+ dollars a bag. Probably does't help the plants but the smell should make the bugs leave the area.
 
A Milwaukee 18-20 volt impact wrench would be handy. And I bought a 20 volt Dewalt grease gun and it really nice.
 
I've been with the same credit card company for like 23 years. I've never had them mention points to me. I'm aware of what they are, I just never pursued them. Sounds like something I should check in to. A friend has a GM credit card. He has had some decent cash to put towards a new purchase sometimes.
 
I do cash back. Cash is the best point system. I put everything I can on a credit card. I got $200 bucks back last month. Normally I get about $100. I put the shredder on it. Dealer didn't like it, but I did it anyway.

I am heading your way to pick up a trailer. They would charge an extra 4% if I put that on a credit card. So I didn't.

Cordele Ga has a bunch of trailers also. When are you headed this way HDR. maybe catch lunch or something. Jogeephus is about 30-40 minutes south of there and I'm about that far north of there.
 
Never done it myself just saw all these points adding up over the years and didn't bother with them that's why its such a windfall. Sweet nonetheless.

HG, the battery operated grease gun sounds like a good thing to have.
 
Yes, I used to carry the green card for about 50 years. Looked up my points once to see what I could get. Turned out to be a box of #2 pencils but hey, they would have come with my name on them. Shortly after that we had a disagreement over a charge that was undeserved so I told them to shove the card but be careful of the sharp edges. So I lost my points and the box of #2 pencils engraved with my name.
 
If you don't already have a self leveling rotary laser Home Depot sells them and they are one of my favorite tools, and by far the most borrowed.

American Express?? I'll be dam if I'm ever going to carry a credit card that charges me an annual fee to carry it and advertise for them. And too many places won't accept them.
 
Have no interest in any points cards, of which most charge an annual fee. Give me the lowest interest rate possible, so that's why I have a Capital One Platinum card. 4.99% annual rate. Can't even get a bank loan or line of credit here for that rate.
 
We buy everything with credit cards. And the points add up to several hundred a month. Usually get the home depot cards. We're getting ready to put new hardwood floors in the house. Entirely paid with redeemed American express points. As a business owner American express is my bar none favorite. Their customer service is second to none. You don't have to worry about keeping records. American express will gladly keep very detailed records for you. It's almost like having a Secretary. Worth every penny.

Fenceman I pretty much get the same thing with a Capital One Visa and don't have to pay $75-85 for each card each year.

I still have and use a GM credit card. Under the "old terms" I can use up to $3500 on the purchase of a new GM vehicle.

The "government motors" thing soured me on GM while the bankruptcy itself cost me and thousands of other company stockholders a small fortune. Yes, it was my own fault, but for those reasons I have stuck to my resolve never to buy a new GM vehicle. Screw me once, shame on you. Screw me twice, shame on me.

I bought a new 2012 Hyundai, first new vehicle ever. I really don't see myself ever buying another new vehicle.

I use capital one to. Where they don't take American express. Your right in the features are close. But American express customer service is way better imo.
