I've had a major problem with deer in the garden this year after planting some swiss chard this fall. That stuff must be cocaine to deer. Been a bit miffed with the deer eating up the garden have only seen their footprints so its been aggrevating. Today I spied two of them at the end of the field outside the fence. They were about 330 yards out and while I knew I shouldn't the thought of them destroying my garden got the best of me so I pulled out my 22-250 and squeezed one off. Heard the familiar retort downrange as the bullet hit something hard. YEP! Shot the dam bobwire AGAIN! Am I a helluva shot or what? :hide:

This is another reason I don't buy lottery tickets.

Jo, While im truly sorry about your fence and the deer eating your garden... The only thing i keep thinking to myself is man i want to load mysprayer and come spray on the outside of your fence bad... sorry I have an obsession with killing weeds and 2,4-d..

I have a neighbor down the road that is a much better person, and much more important than everybody else. He is very smart. I'm fairly certain his DNA is close to Godliness. I know this because he has told me in so many ways. We passed on the county road one day, rolled down our windows to speak. Mostly it was him telling about him; his recent hunting trip to somewhere along the coast of China. He shot some kind of a bear on the side of a mountain, a half mile away, from a moving boat.
As he began telling another windy, I pointed out an armadillo about 300 yards in his neighbors field. He was too anxious to show off his God given gift and whipped out his 300 Win Mag, sand bags and all. He was giving me the verbal step-by-step "how to" when he said "WATCH THIS".
He missed. Cut the barb wire. But we didn't laugh. I knew better :lol2:

Ouachita, next time you see this omnipotent being just let him know that you know someone who can shoot a barbed wire fence in half at 330 yards. (Just don't use the word intentionally and you won't be lying) ;-)

Jo, you need to put up a deer fence and quit shootin up your barb wire. Rabbits can't even get in this garden.
The peas are blooming so I'll be picking some in about another week.

Jo that aint nothing with one shot I tore down about a 100 yard's of four stand barb wire and two hot.
Hog's were hitting the front yard stepped out on the porch one night and busted a big boar with Model 12 16 gauge and double aught. The other 25 went across the drive and took out a 100 yard's of fence.
I showed them.

Is that for keeping them out or catching them? I could see waking up and have a couple does stuck in it like a spider web.

I figured they were about 10 foot cause I doubt you could reach much higher that that.... what being short and all with your elfish stature. :lol2:

If you won't a deer attractant, plant some swiss chard. I've never seen anything like it.

An eight foot fence like the poly-fence in the picture is a surefire way to keep deer out of your garden. We have had success with a bit simpler electrified ribbon fence AND the sue of Deer Repellent Packs around the perimeter of the garden as well.
The Packs send the signal that a coyote is near (they use granulated coyote urine) and if they get too close they get zapped by the fence. If one of the strategies doesn't work the other one does. Electric ribbon fence can be found at most farm supply stores and Deer Repellent Packs can be found online at http://www.DeerRepellentPacks.com
