A conversation between a Customer and Bank of America...
Bank: This is the Bank of America, can I help you?
Customer: Yes, I want to cancel my account. I don't want to do business with you any longer.
Bank: Why?
Customer: You're giving credit to illegal immigrants and I don't think it's right. I'm taking my business elsewhere.
Bank: Well, Mr. Customer, we don't want to see you do that, but we can't stop you. I'll help you close the account. What is your account number?
Customer: (gives account number)
Bank: For security purposes and for your protection, can you please give me the last four digits of your social security number?
Customer: No.
Bank: Mr. Customer, I need to verify your information, but in order to help you, I'll need verification of who you are.
Customer: Why should I give you my social security number? The reason I'm closing my account is that your bank is issuing credit cards to illegal immigrants who don't have social security numbers.
You are targeting that audience and want their business. Let's say I'm an illegal immigrant and you've given me a credit card. I have a question about it and call for assistance. You wouldn't be asking me for a Social Security number, would you?
Bank: No sir, I wouldn't.
Customer: Why not?
Bank: Because you would have pressed '2' to speak in Spanish. We don't ask for that information when calling in on the Spanish line.

CHECK THIS OUT ON SNOPES!!!!! IT'S TRUE!!!!!! http://www.snopes.com/politics/immigrat ... merica.asp

While BofA may be doing this, and it's true according snopes.com... I would question the conversation's validity... But it is kind of a funny conversation...

That's the bank that I would do business in another town if they were the only one in town

As a former customer of BOA, I couldn't agree more!

Different experience here.

I've banked with BOA for the last 5 years and love their service!

We pay most bills online or with a debit card and seldom write a check anymore. As advertised, the updates/deposits/charges are posted to our account almost instataneously - so we always know right where we are.

The "politics" regarding BOA's actions concerned me - but the level of service that we've received, in comparion to other banks we've used, was so superior that we couldn't justify changing.

But I also stop by Starbucks occasionally when I'm away from home - and I certainly don't agree with their corporate political views either.

You mean there's still some of those around?

We've got a couple of banks here that are locally "controlled" - but they both have branches in several different towns.

"Local" banking doesn't work for us because we have a business and ranch that's located 130 miles away from our home. Plus my wife is on an airplane traveling all over the country a good portion of the year.

The beauty of BOA is that we've only been to a couple of locations in the country where they didn't have a branch or ATM. Plus we can easily access our account information online from anywhere.

We do use one of these "local" banks for our business - because we wanted to be certain to not "comingle" funds derived from it. They do have online banking - but the service pales in comparison to what we've experienced with BOA. Instead of almost instantaneous posting, it takes several days for some transactions to appear.

As far as the "politics" go, if someone is going to denigrate BOA, they also need to include WalMart, MacDonalds, Home Depot, HEB, and virtually every company of any size - because they ALL are doing business with illegal aliens to some degree.

Very true, and I'm betting more than a few illegals eat beef, too. ;-)

There are several "local" banks here. The one we use doesn't have branches anywhere else. But they have online banking and we can access the account from ATMs across the country. It's owned by a local oilman/rancher. I don't think we need any services these guys can't provide. And when I call, they seem to be glad to hear from me.

My folks banked, and we used to bank, at the largest bank in town. But it's been sold a couple of times and now really has a "corporate" air. It's a BancFirst now.

I bank at a local bank and know the tellers, board members, officers and their families. I hope they never enlarge or sell out to one of those corporate banks.

We bank at a local bank that has been owned by the same family for four generations. Our grandfathers banked there and now our grandchildren do. If we decide to buy cattle at an auction somewhere, all we have to do is call them and give them a heads up. They have online banking and all the amenities to stay current with modern banking.

I used to use BOA. I didn't really have a beef with them, but they didn't have any branches in Cleburne when I first moved there. I got an account at a bank in WalMart when I divorced, mainly because it was open on weekends. That later was bought by Wachovia. I like them fine, I guess. I miss the independent banks, although I am a fan of branch banking. They didn't have that in Texas forever, and you always had to go to YOUR bank, not a branch, to do business.

I am kinda old fashioned, though. I just recently got a check card. That was because you have to pay before you pump gas here and I never knew how much to get.

You're worse than me. I thought I was the last person in the world to start using my credit card for paying bills. I hardly write checks any more; just the one for the credit card at the end of the month and one for our electricity (they don't take credit cards).

I am just starting to pay bills online. I pay the water bill, insurance and mortgage sometimes. The electric coop's website is stupid to navigate, and since we have more than one meter, you have to go through the same stupid process over and over. So I just pay in the mail, or drop a check by the office.

I had one other debit card in college and I became overdrawn and my dad took it away. I have lived without one since, but now that I have one again, it is really convenient. I have to watch it, though. You can spend yourself in a hole.

I also like self-checkout. Very handy and much faster. Don't ever try to pay for spray paint at one, though. It sets off an alarm and someone has to come along and verify you aren't going to go home and snort it.

Who do I bank with?

I use locally owned banks ONLY!

I'm not asked to fill out a Financial Statement every time I turn around.

Plus I don't have to fill out a Loan Application each time I need a loan. I just call my banker and tell him to cover my check, and that I'll be by to sign the note.

Hate big banks.

By the way, BOA has an anti-gun agenda.

I bank at a semi-local bank.
I beleive its 13 banks total.
We know the guy who owns the one here. But I didnt know him untill I started banking here.
I walk in to cash a check, or something, and if the owner sees me, he will stop and chat.
And it's not generic chat at that. He askes how my grandparents are (and he uses their names) How the cattle are, if there are any upcoming shows, ext.
Every year that I have been in the auction at my county fair, my bank has purchased my steer. Most of the time it's the owner that is doing the bidding, not a representative.
They have all the modern convinences, online bill paying, photo copy's of the checks that I write so that I can see them if I have a question of what the check was for.
I am completly happy with them, and wouldnt dream of changing to a big bank.

Good advice Mike. Our Bank is locally owned and operated. They have several branches, but all offer down home service.I would'nt switch banks for anything.

I used a small local bank up until a few years ago in one town(they sold out to a large bank), but the only times I was in the bank was when I went in and set up the account and I went in one other time. From that point on when I called the bank the woman that I dealt with usually answered the phone and could tell by my voice who I was. It was the same way with a friend of mine. I think that was pretty impressive. She has since retired.
