Just how much is enough?

Gas today has gone to 3.69 a gallon for regular. Diesel, I don't even wanna talk about, (4.29)

I don't see it slowin down any in the near future either. Workin for a construction company, I have the luxury of my boss payin for the gas in my company truck, but my personal vehicle is about to be parked. ( I wonder what my wife would think about goin to work in a horse and buggy?) :shock:

The time has come to call a halt to this. These little e-mails floatin around that want everybody to not buy gas for a day aint workin.

People, Call Your Senators and Representatives, and tell em I aint takin it no more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

While, I dont really think we'll do alot about these prices, we can still annoy the be nice out of em and maybe make em stand up and pay attention to what's goin on here.
 
high gas an diesel prices are going to kill the whole country.an the price wont come down till they flood the fuel market or people cut their driving by 80%.

Paint, this is what scares the honk outta me. The majority of John and Jane Q Public are outraged, yet it doesn't seem to matter. I'll stop now before I get all political, or what some may think is political...

Know what you mean warpaint. Just bought a cart full of groceries yesterday, same last year cost me $250.00, yesterday cost me $350.00
Hate looking at fuel prices anymore.
Besides the 3 we got out there, 1 has no teeth, 1 is in the house and is trying to do something and the last one :mad: I'll leave there.
 
Diesle is $4.49 down here now. By my simple math, the cost of a barrel went up $2.00 but the $.20 jump per gallon at the pump shows and $11.00 jump in the cost of a barrel. Something does not compute.

I sent emails out to many of the state "officials". I got one back from the governors public relations office. You know the secretary to the secretary of the secretary for the relations office. My email was simple. What if anything are you doing about all the homeowners insurance being dropped and the 4x or 5x cost increase IF you can get insurance.

They basically said I can get state backed insurance through Citizens Insurance. Yep, they were right. I can get for a mere $3000 more than I paid last year. :mad:

Any other replies I got back were automated and said they would get back to me as soon as possible. That was 3-4 months ago and nothing.
 
There is no easy fix to this thing.
The doom and gloomers have been saying for all my life (near sixty years) that some day we were going to run out of oil. We are not out of oil yet but demand is incresing rapidly.

Back in the seventies we had a shortage and rationing and you could only by gas on even or odd days but everyone has forgotten that. That was the warning shot.

Now China has four billion folks who are part of americas middle class and they, being middle class folks, want to live in a warm home and drive a nice car. Same Same for India. Since they have americas manufacturing jobs they have the money to bid for food and fuel just like we do. Your congressman has so little control over this he is ashamed to answer your e-mail because he does not have a vote for me program that will make it any better. Neither do any of the three stooges running for president.

We have to have a new energy source of some sort or we are going to go back in time about 100 years pretty quickly. 97 percent of our population does not have the ability or the resources to go back in time. there is a potential for things to get pretty nasty right here at home.

Anyone ever watch the tv shows Dark Angel or Jericho. those scenariaos might be achieved without a nuclear holocaust. Lets face it. The number of home invasions is on the rise today. Seems there is one on the news every day. Gang of thugs breaks into a home and rob, rape, murder, beat and steal.

I hope that I am wrong. I dearly hope that I am wrong. I am a known pessimist but I have been observing societal decline for years now and the brakes seem to be failing.

I'd be willing to bet that even if demand went down by 80%, the prices would not go down, at least not for a long, long time. Why should they lower prices? We're happily paying $4.50 a gallon now--why not go to $5.00 and see if we'll pay that too?

Don't it strike anybody as kind of odd that all this sudden "increased demand" was apparently brought on by hurricane Katrina? Wonder what the connection is there?
 
The law of supply and demand is alive and well as we are still demanding fuel.

A few may be buying a bit less but no one has cut back dramatically in demand.

No one is saying that big oil is altruistic or thea their prime motive is to provide you with cheap gas.

Oil companies are owned by stockholders and stock holders demand a return on investment just like you do on your business.

If they can charge higher prices and make more money then the stockholder expects that to happen. When the world stops or slows significantly in buying petroleum products then the price may decline.

Wether you buy gas from exxon on monday or BP on Tues does not effect demand so that is why all those silly internet e-mails have no impact.

Factor in the whackos who don't want the US to have expanded energy becasue it might discomode a reindeer or a polar bear or a shark. Other whackos fear nuclear energy. Other whackos don't want us to burn coal. Other whackos who want new refineries but not in my back yard.

Our nation is going to have to experience some shortages and hard times before things change much.

Didn't that hurricane destroy a couple of coastal refineries? I am sure they are back up and running now but then there have been three years of change since then as well. Nothing happens in a vaccum.

Just an observation, but I live on a busy highway and I think there is less driving going on. I don't see nearly as many motor homes on weekends. Even the motorcycle packs seem fewer, although that may be the rainy weather.
There are definitely fewer rock haulers from the quarry west of me. And one really big farmer seems to be no tilling for the first time. He has always pulled big discs over the land with big 4WD tractors.
Again, just an observation. No stats to back it up.
 
i had to ask my litte girl for five dollars out of her birthday money till tomorrow for gas to get her to school. i felt so ashamed. i have never had to do anything like that before. the gas is going up so fast, i'm simply unable to fit it right in the budget.
 
Just finished watching the CEO of Exxon Mobile on the Today show. He was not apologetic for the massive profits they are making. Said that when demand dropped so would the price. Would sure like to see this country make the smug B@stard eat those words. Not sure we have the fortitude to drive enough less to make it happen tho.

Of course if we would stop making super comsumers out of 3rd world countries it would go a long way towards lowering demand.

I heard a news show the other day, they were talking how gas in Europe has been $7 a gallon for sometime, and eventually it could get that high here.Now wouldn't that be a big mess? Everyone says there is not a fuel shortage, so why are the prices so high? Greed, because whoever can get away with it is?

I personally think the economy is in a huge mess, and all these people who say its not, are just kidding themselves!

Don't see a decline in autos on the highway I live off of. Just as busy at 11PM as it is at 11AM.

Comparisons to Europe don't tell us a lot.
Some folks on here (CT) drive a distance to work that would cross 3 countries in Europe. And Europe has trains. Americans hate most mass-transit, but high fuel costs may change that.
We could do a lot for ourselves with some public works projects that would put people to work and save fuel in the long run. Wouldn't it be good to have a Japanese style bullet train down the medians of the interstates? Feasible? Of course, then fuel would get cheap and we'd all get back in our cars.
 
Why don't those greedy oil corporate idiots put their profits to good use and build more refineries?
