What do yall think is better to breed big boned Brangus heifers to and why? Low Birth weight Angus, Polled Herford, or a Brangus. I am new to this board and would like to know what you guys think.......Thanks
 
Me i would not use any of the three. But on this board you will sure get the full range of opinuns. Now mine is Fullblood Limi's rock... Muscle muscle muscle!!!!
 
well, my plans are commercial cow/calf....i do not need replacement cattle. I just need to put money back into my pocket..
 
Hereford all the way IMO. I have seen firsthand what kind of cows super baldies make among my kinfolks commercial herds. (Super baldie is a term used for Brangus/Hereford cross.) The black baldie is a perennial favorite that does a lot of things well to begin with, and with that Brahman influence added for the southern climes, you have a growthy, quality animal that should be at or near the top of the market most any time.
 
I would have to go with herford for a little hybrid vigor then on the second or third calf I might go with a fleck bull.
 
From the choices you gave, I would use a Hereford (either horned or polled). BWF or black motley faced calves will top the sale. The heifer mates will make excellent cows if you choose to keep them. Kind of like having your cake and eating it too.

Thats my thoughts. Your Brangus cows already have angus and (of course) brangus in them. So if you are wanting a hybrid "kick" go with an outcross, and use Herefords for temperament and feed efficiency.
