Ive got a trip planned to come in at Memphis and drive to Miami.
I'd like to try some hunting on the way and wondered where I can shoot and what I can shoot with.

Does anyone know the laws in those states I will pass through or maybe a site which sumarizes the cans and can'ts in each state?

tytower,

You will be passing through Tennessee. We are a state that is steeped in a rich hunting and shooting history. Let me know what dates you will be in Tennessee and I can tell you what species are in season and point you to some web sites that can help you understand the rules and regulations.

Virginia's not exactly on the way, but if you happen thru give me a shout. I've got plenty of things that need shootin', and you're welcome to start with the neighbors.

Be in November through January

My main query is where would I go to get info myself . A gunshop or a Tourist type place or maybe some State agency?

Any of the State conservation Departments will have a website with informaiton

Ill try that thanks and thanks to all that posted .
Here is a shot from the States on the photo gallery
Terrific stuff --that´s pretty well all gone here now , specially women shooting even at gun clubs .The fire and thrill´s gone out of it when they treat you like a crim because you own a gun even if it is a side by side 12 Guage.

For those coming after me here is what I found :-

The site trys to hold on to you, but if you copy the names and paste into a Google search it works fine
Got on to the Georgia one Joe and I reckon I´ll get to a gunshop , buy a plinker and go shoot rabbits and tin cans with a $20 no course necessary licence . You can´t imagine how bloody pleased that would make me .!

You might still want to check the regs as to whether or not you as a "visitor" can purchase a firearm over here. I know that in Colo you for sure can't buy a handgun.

Best wishes for some fun shooting. I sure hope it works out for you.

Well tytower deer season should be open all over the south while you are here. Just picked up the new hunting regulation book today i will have look but deer season squirrel rabbit should be open.

If you are going through NE Alabama and are just wanting to shoot, I am part owner and the President of a shooting range. Here is a link to our website. http://mossbranch.org/

Several of us started this about 19 years ago to have a place to shoot and to offer the public a place to shoot.

Nothing more attractive than a women in hunting camp telling her own hunting lies sitting around the fire at night. Especially when it's my wife. :cboy:

I can't tell from that picture, but if the 22 the little girl is shooting has an octagon barrel, I've got it's twin in the safe. Belonged to my Grandpa, a model 12 Remington. It's one of my favorite guns to shoot.

You don't need to pay the $20 for an apprentice license if you are not going to hunt animals. Plinking, target shooting, skeet and all that is non licensed activities. Also, depending on your age, you may not be required to take a hunter safety course to get a license. I can't remember what the cut-off age is though but I can make a call and find out for you if you wish. This was something put in effect to teach children gun safety.

cf I have one too...tubular feed pump.....but some DA for some ungodly reason cut about 3 inches off the end of the barrel years ago. Made a pretty high dollar gun worthless except to just hang on to.
