Anybody out there still plant alfalfa with a horn seeder? My dad thinks he can do a better job with that than anything else... and he's probably right. The problem is, we can't buy them anymore. At least not the good ones that have a cotton canvas bag -- no plastic or vinyl. I did a google and other than state history or ag museums the only hit I got was on ebay. I bought it and the cloth was rotten next to the horn -- right where they always give out first. Otherwise it was OK. I think I can make it usable, but I wondered if anyone else knew of a source to find one.

If it's the seeder I'm thinking of it sort of reminds me of a bagpipe

Is it one of those miniture brodcast seeders with a hand crank, and has a strap that goes over you shoulder?
Ive got one I bought at a garage sale for $2.00. Mine is called a cyclone.

Looks like it was invented during the cave man days just after the they started walking upright.

Here it is. No crank on this one. It's not that technical. They were made by several companies... Horn, Hudson. You walk across the field in swing the "horn" back and forth in time with your steps. It takes some practice, but someone with experience can do a wonderfully even job of seeding.

That's the one that reminds me of a bagpipe.
