My calf (5 months old) has started to wheeze, almost sounds like he is snoring when he lays down and after he runs he seems like he is short of breath and it sounds like he is wheezing, almost like asthma. He is eating, drinking, active - should I have the vet out to look at him or any suggestions what I could do possibly on my own. Thanks for all your help.

Do you have just one calf? Has he been vaccinated for respritory? I'd guess pneumonia. Sulfa in the water, or CTC in with feed for 3 days helps, along with a 3 day dose of Nuflour. And be sure to vaccinate when he is well again. Does he have adequate bedding? I don't know where you're at, but the cold wet damp weather we are having here is hard on them. Sooner is better when treating.

He is 5 months old, he was vaccinated with Triangle 9 when he was one month old and again about a month later. He has plenty of straw in the barn which he lays on - I make sure it is clean, dry and plenty of straw between him and the floor, everyday. I am in southeast Michigan so it has not been too cold here, yet. I will be taking his temperature today. Was going to have the vet out next month anyway to look at him and my heifer, may have him come out this week, just to make sure and get Clancy back on track. Thank you.
