I got bobwire at top but want to run a strand of hot. Mid ways will keep them off I guess. The charger I got is 1 ju but this lot is only 1 acre. Seen a 7 jewel solar deal that will be good for setting up temp borders around hay fields since I'm gathering that is more profitable. How hot is 1 ju? Enough I hope.

Ours are more or less between 32 and 36 inches depending on the lay of the land. At 32 the younger claves will forward graze a bit, but usually by the time they're a couple of weeks old the elctric seems to start having an affect on them.

Guys thank you. Nose height from now on. I put it up earlier and most of it is around 34". This is just run inside my new pen to keep them from rubbing on the fence. Got everything wired, grounded, and now hot. Blew my good multimeter up today tho.
Also got my 100 gal tub set, ancored, and heater installed. I am now ready for company.

Yea, don't use a multimeter on the fence to see if it's working. Go by your local auto supply store and pick yourself up a spark plug tester light. They're only a couple of bucks. Or you can buy one of the fence testers. Or you can do what I do and use a piece of insulated wire - one end grounded, hold the other end about an eight inch away from the hot wire. If you get a spark the fence charger is working.

Haha, I put the thing on 600v and touched the ground and hot at the box. I got this loud POP from inside the tester. At that point I new I p@@ped the bed. My neighbor who is a farmer/electrition stopped by and checked things out. We used a hammer at the end to do the spark test like you speak of. It was a strong arc so all is well. I have to stop and get a new tester in the morn to check a water heater out, I've had that tester for a long time.

Since any decent fence charger works at over 2k volts any where up to 10k it's not surprising. Check your multimeter and see if it has a fuse inside. It may be hard to figure out what the fuse is/was since I've seen them explode from the high voltage.
