I was working on a diesel fuel leak today(again ;( ) and got to grumbling but thought you know one day you might not get the joy of doing this..
Whatcha going to miss when you get old and can't?

whitewater kayaking. have already essentially given it up. a cold fast river with spring melt gets my heart pumping just to look at it and I miss being in the river on a visceral level.

I dunno about now and in the future but I do know this (kinda related).......
If I had known at the time, that the last time I flew on an armed and ready CH53D helicopter (July 1971) was going to be the very last time ever, I woulda sure savored and took in those last moments a lot more.
(I guess it's one of those "youda had to been there" things)

Hunting. I've seen a couple guys I know that have just gotten to old and feeble to hunt anymore. They really miss it.
I second that. My Dad's 88 and he's in the woods hunting with us this morning. I'm not planning on stopping till my last breath.

I think what I'll miss most is getting out and taking care of my cattle.

I hope never to get that old.
I think the worst is when you have difficulty getting about, it must be terrible to have all those memories of being able to walk freely, even up mountains or up trees if you wished. If that ever happens I'll just live in my head and pretend I'm still walking.

I'm with RafterS.. being able to have the cows is what makes my life interesting... Of course I have other hobbies.. dirt biking, working on equipment, welding, fabrication, etc, but the cows are alive, the rest of it isn't.

My girlfriend is a private nurse. Until he died at 94, one of her patients had her drive him around on his side-by-side pretty much everyday to check on his cows. I hope at 94 i"m still checking my cows!

Man... I was just thinking about that same thing the past couple of days. A buddy and I just returned from South Dakota hunting pheasants and I know that I can't get around like I did when I was 20, but I would hate to not be able to do it any more!!! I may hunt a little slower and wake up feeling sore, but I sure do love getting out there!!

With someone's girlfriend.

One of my neighbors passed away a couple of years ago. He had post polio syndrome and was on crutches for ages and finally a wheelchair. Continued to hunt just about everything he wanted do on crutches or from his wheelchair. He was also the "camp cook" on their hunts. He was an engineer (a real one) and bought him a plane. Engineered all the foot controls to overhead controls and got FAA approval to fly it with all of the after market engineering and his reliance on two hands only. He was an amazing fella.

I want to 100 years old when I die. Shot in the back of the head by a jealous 20 year old boyfriend while I am with his 19 year old red headed girlfriend. Big gun, never see it coming, bang lights out.
