What it is.

I have researched on a few different weed I.D. sites and can't find out what this plant is. It grows in bottom land next to our creeks, and cows will eat it. Just wondering if anyone can help me find out what it is. Thanks in advance.

Common name here is greasy grass. Not sure if that correct or not. We have it everywhere in the fall. It is not a weed is why its not in the weed ID.

K.T. we have greasy grass or purple top grass in our pastures and the seed of greasy grass looks a lot like fescue, the plant in the picture has a real fine seed and the blade is shaped different. It seems to grow on ground that is low and damp.

Ok, I dont have any low and damp so guess I dont have any of it.

Kind of hard to tell in the pictures.....I think it might be Japanese Stiltgrass. It is a non-native on the invasive list that I have found growing in my low damp little wood edges. My cows eat it without ill effect as far as I can tell. But, I am not certain of any nutrition value. Look at www.nps.gov/plants/alien/fact/mivi1.htm for more pictures to see if that might be what you are talking about. Good Luck.

I don't think that is stilt.
Mine are eating stilt grass now.

Thanks for the replies. Our cattle seem to enjoy it also. We give the cattle a larger strip in the paddocks that have a large percentage of this grass.
