What is the longest time that you have spent without any human contact?

A couple of years ago I decided I'd had enough of the people around me and needed a break. Packed food supplies, a couple of canvases, my painting gear etc and headed off to a little hut in the bush - this was going to be the perfect getaway :D . Well, the first week was fine but into the second week I was sooo lonely I packed up my gear and came home  - it was awful!!!

It is different on the farm, you have your animals and interests to entertain yourself, you see the odd person etc and can actually lead pretty much of a recluse life if you so wish. Having absolutely no contact with other humans is a nothing thing.

like Lewis Grizzard said,, he came from such a large family that he never slept a night by himself.. till after he married....the most erie silence at ive ever delbt with was after the tornados.. no power anywhere, no one was traveling at night, it was like it was 100+ years ago...

I am going to say three weeks. It has been a while so I don't remember exactly but running a trapline in Alaska you don't run into many people. There have been lots of times where it was a week or two. If you were to extend that to times where I had less than 5 minutes of human contact per day, the answer would be in months.

During my first marriage or the second?

:lol2: :lol2: I think that one made my day.

I hear ya Alison! Seeing people and activity around you day-in, day-out, is far different than not seeing any human life at all. I bet it was kind of eerie out there.

Ya probably should somewhat define "human".
And "contact". I can literally go for weeks on end without speaking to anyone but my wife and kids. I may see a few people but most of them don't speak english and I just wave at the ones that do and keep moving.
Last year my wife took the kids to Texas for ten days with her family and I didn't speak a word to a human being the whole time they were gone and I worked full days the whole time they were gone... It was wonderful.

OK, perhaps I should re phase 'contact' and call it 'interaction' but I doubt that's gonna make a difference :P .

CP - wife and kids don't count, it's gotta be just you all alone. So did you have a bit of verbal diarrhea when the wife + kids got back?

I think being isolated would have major psychological effects on the person's mind, perhaps for someone that is anti social it may not be too bad and would take a wee bit longer before they started showing 'human interaction withdrawal symptoms' :P

How long do you think you would be able to go without human interaction? This would include technology, phones, TV, computers etc.
