I have a couple of cherry trees, with this hard brown growth on the side of the bark, anyone know what it is?

If it is a brown or tan hard foam textured mass about the size of a finger, than I would say it was a preying mantis egg cocoon.Otherwise I can not be sure without seeing it.I would call the extension person in Pike county Mo.They should be able to help you.

Hard to say without seeing it. Could be due to insects or bacteria. Here is a link to some pictures of most common "bad" things.
