Please clearify line breeding for me.
I just had 3 year old drop the best looking calf we have ever had in 5 years.
The cow and sire are out of this calf are from the same Dame, but the sires are of completely different lines. Sire and Dame of calf are half brother and sister. Is this an example of line breeding?

Yes, it is. Linebreeding (also known as inbreeding when something goes wrong) is the practice of breeding two related animals to each other. The closer the relation (mother/son or father/daughter) the bigger the chances of it blowing up in your face. If you do a search for 'linebreeding' on these boards you'll find lots of information.

It would be what some folks call inbreeding.

The last time I checked, 'linebreeding' is mating any two animals that are related. Has this definition been changed? If so, please provide referent material.

Well if 2 people brother and sister, mother, son, father daughter fornicate and have a kid dont we say that their children are inbred?

My sincere apologies - I'm not exactly sure how I managed to do it, but I seem to have misread your post, because I'm sure not getting the same meaning upon re-reading it after your response to my question.

only if you decided the common ancestor was a superior animal that you want to concentrate his/her influence. if it was by accident or just for convenience, it's just breeding with a higher IBC.

IBC?

Inbreeding Coefficient -a numerical representation/prediction of how inbred an animal is.

half sibs - 12.5%
full sibs - 25%
etc.
