What kind of bull should i use with simbrah and black baldie to make good calves?? Any advice would be appreciated.

We need a little more information:

-where do you live (i.e. OH, East Texas, etc)?
-will you keep back some heifers for replacements?
-what will you do with the calves (i.e. sell as feeders, feed out, freezer beef, etc.)?
-what brings the most money in your area (i.e. black hided, cattle with some ear, etc.)?

i live in east texas. i will most likely keep the heifers because i am trying to build a herd right now and the bull calves will be taken to the sale barn, im just starting so i dont really know what brings the most.

what kindof calf would that make? or would it be called anything?

I like the sounds of that. does it matter if the simbrah and baldie are not registered?

This is one of the simbrah, i have another pic that i want feedback on (waiting for it to download). also the second one looks like a good one, but want yalls opinions and want to see if yall know what breed she is.

The third one is my first cow to buy and she has already had one good bull calf

I don;t know how to tell either. But based strictly on the pictures I like the first 2 a lot, the third one seems a little shallow bodied and light boned for me. But it could be a difference in age.

They are all pretty good commercial brahman cross cows. Should raise top selling calves from a Red or Black Angus bull. You will have calves with just a little ear.

They look like pretty good cows-the third one is a smaller boned female but I'd probably put black bull (Angus, Gelbvieh, SimAngus etc.) on them all and get some good market calves or keeper heifers.

i think the simbrah is way better than the other two, but they all look like ok cows. i'd probably go with a black angus.

I don't know how well I can explain it, but here goes:
"ear" is referred to the size of the ear that a brahman cow will bring into the calf. I.E. a full blood brahman has a lot of ear. A british or continental (angus, hereford, ect) has no ear. When you mix 1/2 brahman and 1/2 other no eared cattle you will still get a calf that shows ear - like your cows. If you breed your cows back to a no ear bull you will get a 1/4 eared calf. You can tell it has brahman influence but you know it's a cross calf. I calf that has 1/4 or less ear will sell better at the auction then a calf with full ear. But for momma cows a 1/2 eared cow works great in the hotter climates (Texas)

thanks for explaining, but why would the ear size matter at the sale? prolly a dumb question

A nice homozygous black Simmental bull would be a good choice also. There are some good breeders in your area as well.

7P is having there bull / female sale the end of October. They have very good bulls, and fair prices as well.
