I just started this year. This spring I bought 4 cows and they all aborted their calves. I didnt get much hay this year (maybe half of what we normally get) so I sold the cows and bought 11 calves between 150-250 lbs. 2 steers and 9 hfrs. Im trying to decide if I should keep some hfrs. and breed them next July/Aug. or sell them in the spring? Also thinking about just buying young calves again, raise for 6 months and resell, or restarting with a cow/calf operation. What do you think? Im leaning twards calves again and maybe picking up cheap pairs if i find them? I dont have alot of $ so there is less up front with the calves, and i can get more when I sell these. What would you do?

Again!
Calves appreciate, cows depreciate.
That should tell you where the money is.

And as a beginner start with calves as you are less likely to get hurt, financially and physically, and the investment required is a lot less.
Also you can spread your risk over more animals minimizing your loses if something should go wrong with one.
Good luck
SL
