I am sure some of you already know this but for those that don't, welding galvanized metal is REALLY bad for you. The fumes can make you seriously ill.

Here are some tips. Grind off the galvanization when you can before welding. Try not to breath the dust.
Weld only in well ventilated areas and keep your head out of the flume.
If possible dip the area to be welded in Muriatic acid and let it eat the galvanize off. It only takes a couple of minutes.

If MIG welding these tips make for a much better job and easier welding. The same can be said for Arc welding also.
 
Good tip/reminder for the DIY people.
Might add the same precautions if your cutting it with a torch.
All that popping and fuming is nasty stuff.
