[QUOTE="Jogeephus, post: 1060835, member: 4362"] I agree. I know several people who live in the UK and ALL say their health system is great. I think we are getting played with misinformation from both sides for selfish reasons. I asked them to explain how their system is funded and this is what they told me. They take 6% of your income to pay for the social stuff which includes welfare, housing for the poor and the health care. Everyone pays this 6% and when you go to the doctor you it is free. The way I see it, we are already paying for welfare and housing so it shouldn't take 6% for us to implement a national health insurance policy for everyone but even if it did take 6% - this would still be cheaper than what I'm paying now in my health insurance coverage. So I question, why can't we do something similar? This would fix the problem with the hospitals going broke from the no pays, the doctors could get a decent salary and they wouldn't have to jack up the price for services for those who do pay. Call me a liberal if you like but I am far from that. I just believe there is a better way. Just consider the cost of a single family policy for someone who is self employed with Blue Cross. Its $800/month with a $10,000 deductible. Same group policy with a $500 deductible and dental and eye with under a large gov't contractor is $600/month. Same group policy with GE/gov't contractor only with a $250 deductible is $460/month. What's the difference. Same company better coverage but it boils down to numbers in the group. Why can't we all pool our money and form one large group? Why can't insurance companies sell their insurance across the country and why are they granted specific zones and/or protected territories? I can tell you why, we are getting screwed by both sides of the isle and Obama care is not the answer. The answer is for the congress to do what is right for the country and its citizens and forget politics and do what is fair and what is right for the people. Their selling us out in this area to the insurance companies and the doctors may help them get re-elected but it stymies the small business growth in this country because if you are not in a group you stand to lose everything you've worked for if you get sick.
