Hello all

Two days ago I seperated my cow from her 13 month old calf. How long does it uasally take for the cow to dry up? Her udder has swelled big time over the last two days is there anything I should be watching out for with regards to the cows udders? IE: infections etc?

Her calf is very noisy even know they are only seperated by a 1 wire electric fence. I expected the cops to show up last night because he was so loud and I am sorounded by other homes.

How long does it generally take for the calf to get over it?

Thanks

They'll usually quiet down after a copule of days when fenceline weaning. Her udder will start to reced after a couple of days.

No typo the calf is 13 months old. I had some issues that caused the delay in weining. This should not be a issue with the beef should it? The calf will be going to the butcher in the Fall.

No, late weaning will not affect the quality of the beef. He is eating grain even though he is upset? Make sure you don't put him back with her before he goes. She is due to calf again?

Yes he is eating plenty of grain.

I am not sure if she is bred or not she may very well be bred back to her calf. The calf seems to be a bull. I posted a few month ago about his boched castration.

Why not put him back with her after she is dried up?

I have the cow up for sale but it seems everybody that calls expects to get her for nothing. I am asking a tad bit less than market price. Looks like I will be fattening her up for the frezzer my self.
