Figured I would start a thread on weeds. each region has different weeds and call them different things such as dove weed(pictured Below) my cows will eat it.

I don't think I have that here if so the cattle keep it ate down. My cattle love ragweed lol The will eat those before grass so I don't spray those.

My dad always said most everything had feed value if harvested at the right stage! I age a field I planted to BMR sorghum, however due to cool wet weather lots of weeds over took it. Yesterday we chopped and bagged it for silage. I elieve it will be good feed and hopefully the sorghum will regrow. Mel

Mine love young ragweed also. The weeds and odd grasses that have come up in the previously flooded areas are where the cows are staying. They have access to a coastal field that is 12-18" deep and they only go there every 3 or 4 days

So different than what people here call dove weed.. You google search images of dove weed and you get both kinds, yours and what we call it. We also call it goat weed. Depends on where you live, locals call it goat weed, but lease hunters from the city call it dove. Probably because most lease to dove hunt too.

We have dalis grass around our house, we bale it usually and if we get enough other hay we graze it. I make a round in it every morning and check it for fungus since we have all our breeding heifers eating it now. This year has been very weird with this grass. Around the end of June, the seed heads come out and cover anything in there with sticky goo. Didnt do that this year but did seed out with no sticky. We had storms last night with tons of wind. When i went out this morning to check for any fungus, the seeds had been blown off. First time that has ever happened, but i'm thankful that i dont have to worry about that dern fungus..

We've got a weed, I've been meaning to take a picture of to post. It hasn't been here my whole life, just the last few years. The story goes, it came in here in cottonseed hulls, IDK. Does that ring a bell for anyone? It doesn't flower, and I've never seen it make a seed, but common sense tells me it does.

Open up a dove's craw late in the growing season and you will find it full of the little black seeds from dove/goat weed. they love those seeds.

Hemp/Dogbane is spreading like wildfire in this part of the country. Very hard to control or get rid of due to the horizontal rooting system.

Heck I would eat that with some ranch dressing! " Dove weed" here in central Texas is also called " croton". There was a pic in another post but it's a dainty weed with a seed head that matures the next month or so. The dove will eat it when they run out of corn from thd deer feeders! ;).

Used to have it in all the row crop fields. Usually occurred in small patches. Roundup Ready soybeans rang the death knell for it, because we don't see it in the fields anymore. I assume Glyphosate will kill it easily.

Looks better than what I have for a lawn---like giant bladed San Augustine.. Will it stand weekly use of a lawnmower?
