We are weaning a bit earlier this year and it is going well. We fence lined for 5 days, then we moved mamas 2 pastures over and will move the calves next week to another piece of ground where grass and fresh water is plentiful. Our replacement options are promising this year, we had 8 of 11 heifers born in February with plans to keep 4 if they keep growing out well. That leaves 15 calves to sell in January. That's the plan anyway. :cboy:

They look good.. that tiger stripe looks like she's got nice length and meat. I had a poor year for promising heifers... each one I kept has things I'd improve on... One is a perfect looking calf, but could have grown a little more, One was HUGE but a milk thief and the mother is a bit of a prolapse cow, and the 3rd was a last minute change of mind, kept two from her mother before (a beautiful cow), but neither of them turned out, so I'm giving her a last shot (different sire this time)

Have you had any problems with them stampeding into corners? Its a small group so they may not do it, but when we wean our heifers in big numbers they are dangerous.

We had that happen for the first time this year! Had about 50 calves in our pipe and panel pens. Built for rodeo stock. They went through fences, broke welds on the panels...it was a mess.
