Grand Price
Just Separated from Cow
Will be 7 months old tomorrow. Born 11/04/15.
Sire: Grandmaster
Dam: Hudson Pine/Rocking P Cow (Price). I purchased her about 4 years ago.
Don't have a scale but he has to be in the 750 range. Water tank is a good reference. He will be going to Fire Sweep Simmentals in about 10 days so he will be weighed there.

Yes very nice Ron. I'll be interested to find out his weight. My top calf in the last crop born mid July weaned end of February so 7.5 months went 442 kg just on grass or clover actually. His mother kept making milk and he kept drinking it. I think you might be surprised what he weighs.

I am surprised you don't have scales Ron. When you get into high end genetics as you are I think it is imperative to measure what you are achieving. What is he going to be doing at Firesweep?

Ken

Ken, I need a scales. I get my birth weight with a bathroom scales. It works for me. I bought a calf sling and hanging spring scale but it is faster and less fuss to pick up the calf and get on and off the bathroom scale.

I will send you a PM.

Ron

Nice looking calf! We just got a scale last year and I think it's one of the best things we've bought. Obviously it's not a necessity but it sure is interesting to know exactly what an animal weighs.

Count me in as another needing a scale. I'm pretty dang close guessing the weight until they reach 850 + and then I seem to miss it by much more especially on bulls or steers. I do have a belt and small scale that I weight the purebred calves after birth but would really love to get a big one put in the chute. Ron he looks like he's done good. Good luck with whatever your plans are with him.

Mike, I gave the 750 number based on a beef weight tape. On a condition ranking from 1 to 4, I gave him a 3 (fleshy). It came out to be 747. His Dam raised him well. She went through the winter with this big boy on her, held her condition and did that on medium quality hay. I set up a creep feed hot wire and the calves had access to a 12 % mixed feed. They gained on the extra protein and carbohydrate.

Keep us informed on his weight. It is hard to tell weight by pics but he looks bigger than 750.

Delivered two bull calves yesterday to Firesweep Simmental Ranch in Missouri where they will be finished and sold as yearlings this fall. Grand Price out of my Hudson Pine/Rocking P Cow and the Bull Grandmaster was born 11/4/2015. I weaned him about 3 weeks ago and broke him to mixed feed. He is halter broke and very docile.

HE WEIGHED 860 POUNDS.

Ron,
You were probably really close on your guess when you used the weigh tape. Recently weaned 2 bulls on May 19th, vaccinated and weighed them. 16 days later I had the opportunity to reweigh those bull calves and the both gained 102 and 104# in 16 days. Same set of scales. Steers didn't gain near as much, but they were experiencing some "changes" in anatomy..
