Almost done... we worked 253 calves yesterday thru the chute.
Of those worked, I was quite impressed with the scale as those Blackstone calves walked across. Some looked like they were yearlings. With that said, most were ugly. But he was a terminal bull for our program and I was grinning ear to ear, when they walked that scale. Hopefully they finish well. They had an average of nearly 100lbs over anything else. He was used on 1st/2nd calf heifers and we’re across the scale averages of 800+lbs! If you don’t mind ugly, these are the calves for you!
Phenotype, we only have 3 Quarterback calves and all 3 were quite easy on the eye. Beautiful and rightly muscled. We bred SAV America for a friend last night and discussed QB, we will be breeding to QB again. And this gentleman we bred for, helped us work calves yesterday and loved them also.
President. Still inconsistent. We have a lot more of him on the ground due to using him as a flush. Several had that Charlo influence and honestly, hurt our thoughts on him. It’s hard for us to see such a small frame and be ok with it. One of our favorites at birth who looked impressive was the least, yesterday.
Treasure. Nothing but love! Consistent all the way thru. The friend who helped us yesterday, actually changed his mind on his flush after seeing the Treasure calves and had us use him instead. We told him that Treasures have been good from birth to now. No ugly stages.
Epic. We used him heavily along with Blackstone on our 1st and 2nd calvers. We were also pleased with him and looks nice! Hopefully some of the PB calves we have come back clean but I’d use him again on terminal.
We also loved our Discovery calves. Those seemed more like sleepers. They really came into themselves.
Our Acclaims are stellar and probably our most excitable but that could be because we’re showing favoritism since they were our ET calves. Talk about muscling!
Used a lot more sires. Like Game Changer. Hoover Dam (son) Etc... but everything above stood out for one reason or another.
Once we get that data entered into cattlemax, I can give WW averages for groups. Will do adjusted. Our average days for group we worked yesterday was 213 days old.
