Weaned our calves today
Steers avg 526#
Heifers avg 495#
Pretty great increase from last years average.

Had a steer calf weight 705# :shock:

No hormones.

Now I'll whine. ;-)

had 2 calves weighting around 500# step on my left foot in the same spot within 15 minutes. :lol2: :lol2:
Got an ice pack on my foot.

A pair of heavy leather steel toe boots is a must in the corral with calves! Weights will help ease the pain though. Congratulations! I hope nothing is broken in that foot! Jim

I have steel toes, but right where they stepped was above the steel. :roll:
Bruised pretty good. I've seen worse though.

Our 012 steer was 647
Our Rambo heifer is 540
that nice 020 is 646

The steer that our vets daughter picked for her 4-H steer is 570. He is also a twin. We sold his twin months ago.

Geez and I just branded today lol. This summer we just couldn't find a dry day when the kids were around-beautiful day for it today and it went good we just used two horses on every calf so was pretty easy day.

if it was anything like it was here sunday it was a beautiful day to do that. actually had to find a shady spot for a minute.

so down there was last year and this year as far as moisture on the complete end of the spectrums? what difference a little moisture does!

now - hopefully you hit a day down at lewistown while corn keeps going down

Ran the cows through this morning preg testing.
Cut off our 4 culls.
1 for old age (13 years old)
1 vaginal prolapse
1 spot on the eye
1 for age and small calf

Only had 1 open cow. :banana: :banana: She's hitting the road.

All the rest got a shot of Bovi Shield Gold FP5+L5 and poured. They are out to pasture.

Calves we are keeping were pretty happy with a full feed bunk. The sells are in another pen, they got fed this morning.
Keeps are going to get their shots and poured this evening. Also the bulls are going to be done after Tuesday. Butcher is coming for 2 steers tomorrow and they are with the bulls right now.

Got our check from the sale barn.
Shows 28 calves with a total weight of 13875.
Our scale weights came out at 12782.
That is a 1093 difference.
Need to check out our scale.

ILH-why do you think you weights increased over last year?

I hope your foot is ok. Hurt foot can be a real aggravation. At one time it seemed like as soon as a broken toe would heal, it would get broke again (Not cattle related).
Now the top of one foot has pain that goes and come. Come to think of it I have other parts with pain that comes and goes. :frowns:

Sorry Ryder guess I didn't explain it clearer.
The scale we used to weigh our calves before shipping was weighting them light.
The sale barn scale got a more accurate weight on them. They were much heavier then what we were getting.

Yes their weights from last year are up. We believe it is the bull we used, but all the rain and green grass sure didn't hurt.

At least it was a good surprise that your "shrink" was actually added weight. Would have really bummed you out if it went the other way.

Sorry about your foot - ouch!
Nice weights, what age are they? We will be weaning in a week or so and preg testing too. Hopefull the fall girls will be done so we can get them vaccinated and ready to start all over again.

Valerie they were 5-6 months of age.

Stupid foot still hurts. :? It is getting better though.

Our steer calf that got overheated and stressed is doing much better. He is still a bit jumpy, but is eating like crazy and is able to get to the automatic waterer to drink. He still trips on his left front now and then.
