Hello:

We have a remote water issue. We have a well on property with no electricity. We only have a lease on this property for one year. We need to get water to a trough for cattle. We've rebuilt a spring that is producing about 450 gallons per day and we have 500 gallons of storage set up. For the well, the storage tank on the property we had planned to use as water storage turns out to be like a 15 year old 4500 gallon fuel tank with a TINY bit of residue in it. We found a cleanser that will clean it up, we think. Because of the short lease, we'd really like to use this tank as opposed to buying a new one. Any help or ideas? Secondarily, we thought we had a 12v well pump chosen, but as it turns out, it's not going to work for us. Once again, time vs cost, we're having a real hard time justifying the purchase of a $600 - $1,000 pump! Not for one year. Does anyone have any ideas on this issue too? Thanks again!

do you have the possiblilty of borrowing or renting a generator to operate a pump. You would have to go each day but it's an option. We have done this. Pain but works
How about a gas pump. again an every day job.
only thing i could think of that might work on a borrow sitituation unless you had these kicking around on the farm

good luck

Isn't there a pump thing (water hammer?) that you can rig up that works on its own without power. I've heard about them but don't know much else. Its a constant flow device and might just work with the reserve tank. Maybe somebody on the board has used or seen one of these.

We actually did have a gas pump - but it was stolen, in the space of about 1/2 hour - while we were on the property. We now have a make-shift pump house to house things in and lock them down.....

We aren't trying to do this with no money - it just seems like everything we are finding that will work is almost $1000. There are pumps available that would do the job, but they either don't have the lift, or their life span is WAY too short. You would think someone somewhere would have something middle of the road in life-span, performance, and price.

We're looking at going with a wind generator and voltage regulator to power the pump - it's a matter of finding the right pump in the right price range to not make this whole thing so cost prohibitive. If necessary though we are not beyond charging batteries at home and hauling them and swapping them out daily. The property is close enough to home that's not a huge deal.

Needing to set up the pump system, if we can't get this tank set up to run, the cost of a new tank could possibly do us in.

Thank you all for your input!
