Hi all...
I just started raising a calf on my hobby farm.
And I realised she has like warts around her neck :(
I'm wondering is it contagious and how can can i get rid of them or do they go away themselves.
If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

Thanks in advance :)

Give it until about yearling and they will disappear. They are contagious among calves from what I read. Or the old farm remedy is to pull one off with needle nose pliers and get the calf to eat it or use a bolus gun. The immune system is supposed to respond from the action. I am lazy and let then just develop their own immunity. And I would have trouble finding a pair of needle nose pliers right now! Now where did I put them? It's like trying to find needle nose pliers in a hay stack.

I am absolutely going to have to buy a pair of needlenose, standard length. Last time I saw them was in my medicine/tagging bag, nowhere to be found.

I think I'll just wait till they disappear themselves.
I do t have the heart to rip them off with pliers.
Nor could I find them :)
I heard by putting Apple cider vinegar on them might help.

I knew an old vet that used to do the wart bolus thing and made a good bit of $$ doing it, but he dried it, ground it up and put it in a capsule and used a cheap manual balling gun.

Swinging a freshly dead cat over the calf under the new moon will do just as good and gets rid of internal parasites as well. Pretty sure it cures cancer too, and is the primary reason we were able to put a man on the moon 50 years ago.

Any cat will do but it works faster if the cat is the same color as the wart laden animal is.
You'll have to consult the old soothsayer lady in the cave for details regarding the possum and skunks tho.

I've got this big skunk named SAV Stinker. If he ever dies I think he'll take the warts off of all cows and most warthogs. He'll probably deworm a few while he is alive.

Scrape with a knife, be fairly abrasive enough to trigger them to “heal” they build immunity naturally from that. Same with ringworm

We just let them run their course. They eventually seem to break them open on their own and they disappear. Same with ringworm.

Ringworm & warts are kinda like a childhood disease. They will run their course and go away. The only time it is an issue is if the animal is going to a show or sale.
I just pull them away from the body a little & use scissors & cut them off. Quick & easy.
Don't mind all our fooling around. We have to have some fun.
and :welcome:
