Waiting for our last cow to calve. May 25th is the last day for any calves.
Husband is threatening to ship her on Monday if she does not calve by then.
This is a nice 3 year old.
Now I am thinking of gloving up to see where the calf is sitting. I had palpated one a few years ago and felt the front feet just getting into position and the cow had the calf a couple of days later.

Any thoughts?

Yeah, I would just wait her out, must be her second calf? She will give you a fine calf.

 Herfs, How's your calf crop this year?

mnmt looking good as far as the calf crop goes. One set of twins and only lost 2 calves. Just waiting on this last one to calve. It's driving me nuts, she's bagged up, sprung and possibly lost her mucus plug a couple of days ago.
Just checked the pairs today, was going to take some pictures, but the battery died in the camera before I could get one taken. Calves are looking good.

Very good! congrats. Get the camera going. 8) I got 3 more to go, 1 soon the other 2 will be Aug or Sept.

Only reason to palpate her at this point is for your own practice; May 25 is still 10 days away.

Chris it is the husband who is impatiant.
The extereme heat we got last year threw them off. We had finished calving the first of May last year. As long as I can keep him away from the barn she will stay here.
He is going to haul a 2yo that did not breed for this year. Vet had liked her and wanted her for his daughter if she was bred. I never liked her. In the summer of '06 she got a chin full of porcupine quills and never got to where I would have kept her as a replacement. We have been pouring the feed to her and she still looks boney. Too many people would have a fit so I won't post a picture of her. I will post one of the one I am waiting for.

Found the cow at 6pm starting to act like she was going into labor. She was trying to claim another cows calf.
Put her in the barn and left her alone. Re-checked at 7:30, nothing.
Checked again at 9pm water has broken, but something just seems off. Palpated her, completely dilated, but no hooves, no head, no tail. I have no idea what I am feeling, go home and call vet, no cell service at the barn.
Calf is laying sideways and we are concerned that he is dead because of no response. Vet pulled the calf and he was alive. A good night with the a live calf and our last one we are done for this year.

Really good call on your part, congratulations on a live calf in that situation.

Here's another pic of the calf. It's a bull for now, he will be made into a steer by banding tomorrow morning. Mom is standing behind him and is very defensive over her calf.
