I took some heifer calfs over to a small field that's all field fenced to wean earlier. At 12:30 am mu phone starts buzzing. Text from the friend where the calves are. She thinks one got out. Her neighbor called her, said the dogs were barking and she heard a calf bawling. Of course there's only about 400 yds separating the two places so it may be one in the field at my friends. My friend goes out in the dark and can't see the black calf or eyes. Sooooo, of course I can't sleep now and I can't do anything about it right now. Here it is 3:30 am and I'm wide awake.
Sure hope she's wrong.
 
Hope that every calf is where it belongs. I've noticed that sound carries differently at night (at least where I live). So maybe the calf was still in the pasture and was just missing it's mom.
 
Had to track her very near a semi busy road, through some woods, and back to a neighbors. Then we just pushed her back to the gate on the field. We buttoned up every tiny little hole. A squirrell can't even get thru now. But if she jumps......but she never has.
 
Glad it worked out for you.

My mother in law worries all the time about the younger ones getting out. I guess I'd better pay close attention to the little holes in our fence here and there huh?

Biggest reason to use a Hereford bull on black cattle! :lol2:

She has a white blaze on her head. Momma is gert x herf, bred to brangus.
Good stout calf with a little attitude.
