has anyone used these ventless natural gas heaters in basements, or garages. are they safe? do you know a good brand name. thanks

We have 2 of the propane ones. The one in the house I don;t know the brand it came from the gas company. The one in the sun room is Pro-Com. No compalints about either of them.

Another item to make sure about is the regulator and size of pipe and or tube going to the unit. Most of the vented and vent free fireplaces are made on the lower side of quality since they normally don't exceed 30,000 BTU's. We have had one in the house for five years. The first one was vent free fireplace and we never got it to keep from making smoke on the walls. It was so little that you wouldn't notice it unless you had a piece of white cloth or something like that. We ended up painting the whole house. We now have a vented one and no it's not as efficient but I know it reduces the risk of it smoking up the house. We have a infrared wall hanging unit on porch and it has worked perfectly for 5 years. I had one in a garage once and it took off burning uncontrollably because I had it on a regulator similar to what is on an outdoor grill. I later realized that is what happens when the regulator fails and they are never meant to be used inside. I guess you live and learn.

Use L.B. White guardian 60 in the loadout ally, and supply shed at the hog barn. Real good stuff, and with the forced air a small unit can heat a pretty big air fast.

We had a L. B. White heater in a calf barn, it outlasted the dairy and is still hanging there. It must be over 40 years old I forgot it was ventless.
