The past couple days have been pretty relaxed, so spent the days looking at cows and taking pictures.

old #13 (purebred BA) - she never fails to amaze me. She will be 17 this year, I took this picture the day after we brought them home - she walked 8 miles over the 2 days before this picture was taken.

She stays in great shape year round and has never had any problems since we brought her home. She doesn't wean the biggest calf but she always weans a good one.

I didn't notice at the time but apparently the 6 year olds were the photogenic ones!

Wow.. lots of real tanks... especially that first 6 year old RA cow. They all look good!

I will try and get some pictures posted today.. I took a bunch yesterday

Thanks Nesi. She has been a good cow so far for us. Her first heifer calf was sold as a 4H heifer. She seems to be turning into a real good cow for the kid that took her. We have another daughter that will have her first calf this year, and
we also kept a bull off of her, and used him for 2 years. He wasn't perfect by any means, but he had some stuff going for him, including extra length (which IMO some of our cows are lacking). We will have 4 of his daughters have their first calf this year and have 4 more in the replacement pen. The only reason we sold him was that we found his bull calves to be a little heavy/blocky in the front end, which doesn't exactly work the best when you are trying to sell heifer bulls. We didn't' have any calving problems from him (1 pull out of roughly 60 calves) but birth weights weren't as consistent as we would like either. His weaning weights were average or better for our herd and the calves looked nice. Hopefully he leaves a positive impact through his daughters and if they take after his dam that would be ok.

That 17 year old looks exceptional! You have some very nice Red Angus females as well. Congrats! :tiphat:
Thanks Backbone - the 17 year old is probably my favorite cow on the farm. We should've kept every daughter she ever had... We do have 2 daughters (one will be a 3rd calver and the other a 2nd calver), and I'm hoping for another heifer calf this year.

Thanks to everyone else too - I don't think they are that special, I just like sharing pictures of cows!

I love the look of the purebred RA cows. All are nice cows I just like the RA the best.
Thanks. They are my favorite too. They have been in my husbands family since the mid 80's. Almost all the RA cows on the farm go back to the original ones they purchased. A few years ago we did buy 3 reg'd heifers (the 376 & 127 cow pictured above would have came then) and in December we added another 6 from a dispersal. Not so much because we thought we needed to add anything to our herd quality wise, but more because none of the cows from the grandparents are papered (they are purebred, but they stopped registering the calves in the early 90's). Most of our bull customers could care less about papers, as long as they do what we say they will do, but some would like to have a papered animal (ie. the guys that run in community pastures)
