Every year around the first of the month of Dec. The wife and her mom(now 86yr old) brother and sister and family's go to Vagas. Every year they try to get me to go.

I absouletly have refused for years and still refuse.

No1 I will not fly(when in the military a partrooper) if I can't get there by driving I aint going.
No2 I hate big city's crowds and all them lights.
No3. I have nothing against gambling but I might just as well through dollar bills in the trash.
No4 Besides it's deer hunting season.

Going to Vegas is kind of like .................. can;t think of what it's like that's acceptable here. But everyone should go once. It is the darndest place I've ever seen.
But I hate it and after going there once I can;t see any reason to go back.

Dun, I said the very same thing...and it was 25 years before I returned...and when I did I hit a $1250 jackpot on a quarter machine. That helps kinda change the attitude just a bit.

I just went a couple weeks ago and see absolutely no reason to go back. We have plenty gambling here in S. LA. They advertise it as a family place, but there is nudity and prostitution advertisement every 100 ft. Filthy place if you ask me. It was physically clean on the streets though. I guess I'm used to New Orleans where you have to throw your shoes away after you walk around! But i agree with Dun it is a place that you have to see at least once even if for a day.

This may seem like a strange comparison but is Vegas like Disney World/Land? I went to FL DisneyWorld 17 years ago on a college softball trip and wasn't that impressed. We took the kids last year because they wanted to go and they were a good age and it was a concrete jungle. Everything is so fake and the developments just kill the natural habitat. (I don't think they were that impressed, they don't ever talk about the trip.) I guess Vegas is in the middle of a desert, but I guess it just seems like something city people would like a lot better than country people. Am I right?

Along the lines of Disney, Carl Hiaasen is a FL author that hates Disney and writes hilarious books that no so subtly dig the politicos for what they've done to the state.

Alright - let me be the pro-Vegas person!
Do not go if you don't like gambling, dancing, shows, people watching or things of that nature. Remember, you are in the middle of no where - there are no farm type activities to visit. I go every year and to tell you the truth I've only seen one animal (horse) and it looked out of place.
I always figured gambling at the tables weren't all that different that farming. A lot of variables that you can't control, you can only hope to minimize them!

There used to be. The government took it over and it went broke. Only the gov could lose money running a cat house

We go to Vegas every two to three years, lot's of activity for the country folk, PBR Finals, NFR finals. One of the newer casinos even has an arena for horse and cattle events. Just don't take more money than you can afford to lose. Worse time ever in Vegas was last year, we went for a convention teh same time the NBA allstar week was going on... big Hip hop crowd, lots of crime, same time Pacman Jones was involved with a shooting in Vegas. My wife and I spent more time in our room that trip.

Most of the time it's a fun place and lots of sights, but it's also the kind of place it's nice to get out of.
