Vaccinations??????

I have 9 heifers that will calve from 3/25 to 5/10. Questions: Should they be vaccinated, prior to calving, for anything? If so, what and when? What new calve vaccinations should I have on hand? Any related advise is welcome. Tks.

The only thing I know of that you would vaccinate for now would be scours. They should get a shot about now, and then again in a couple weeks I think. We don't vaccinate for it, but if you have a problem with scours you may want to. Or just to be on the safe side.

Vaccines you will want to give to the calves would be a blackleg (7 or 8 way clostridial). Tetnus if you are banding. Also there are several respiratory vaccines out there that you may or may not want to use. Also check with a local vet and see if there are any other vaccinations that they recommend.

For the cows I would strongly suggest a vaccine containing BVD, IBR and PI3. This one can be given after calving and before breeding. There are possibly others that you might want to give depending on your area.
