using a Black Baldie for the herd bull

i myself use a black simmental w/ blazed face with my angus herd.my neighbor is looking to replace his older bull this year.his herd is solid black.he has a chance to buy a black baldie 1/2 angus,1/2 hereford at a great price. since the calves will be 3/4 angus will most have the motley(splattered) looking white face or solid white?

There is no way to know until the calves hit the ground and the same cow bredto the same bull the next year may have a calf marked totally different then the first year. If any of the cows are red gene carriers there may even be some red calves in the mix.

Your neighbor will not get as much hybrid vigor from that bull compared to using a straight hereford.

It always bothers me when a cattle producer gets excited about getting a cheap bull. You usually get what you pay for. The bull is half of their herd and they do not want to pay for that half. Then they want to keep replacements out of a bull like that.

Just curious what is a great price?
