U.S. confirms border to reopen to Canadian cattle March 7
OTTAWA, Feb 09, 2005 (The Canadian Press via COMTEX) -- The U.S. government has confirmed it will reopen the border to Canadian cattle March 7, say Canadian officials.
A spokesman for Agriculture Minister Andy Mitchell's office said the news came from the American agriculture secretary Wednesday.
The border has been closed to cattle and many meat products since a case of mad cow disease was discovered in Alberta in 2003.
Last fall, American agriculture officials announced the plan to reopen the border, but that was put in question after the discovery of two new mad cow cases early this year.
