In case anyone remembers, I posted some pictures of my thin cows and received advice on how to put weight on them. They are in their six month of pregnancy now. Well, it's been about three weeks, so here's before and after pictures for your enjoyment/commentary. I think they look better.

Thanks again for all your opinions and assistance!

The dun Dexter at the bottom is pretty much typical of the dun dexters I have seen. They just don't carry any weight whatsoever... As far as all of them needing a lot more weight.. I don't know about that.. If they were built like an Angus yes but they aren't. Generally, you will start getting fatty deposits around the tailhead on a lot of Dexter cows (Which these remind me of) before they start looking real fleshy. Keep them on the program you have, don't push them very hard and you and they will be fine...

They look good as is. A nice shine to their coat, good flesh, healthy looking cows. No need to over fatten them especially in the kind of heat you get down there.

Thanks guys!

I think they are at their limit as far as feed, (4 pounds each per day), plus a little alfalfa hay and freee choice grass hay. I'll hold them steady and add a little more alfalfa once the calves are born to help with lactation. Good to know about fatty deposits. I'll watch them for that, but I think they will slow their gain.

Thanks for the update. There's some posts on this board I find a little depressing, it's good to read this one and see that you are taking care of those ladies.
