Thought some of you might find this interesting. Here's what can happen to a cow with a case of mastitis that's left untreated. This is the second lactation - calf - since it happened. She only milks from the two quarters on the left side. Right side had mastitis. She's bagging up now, but may have as much as a week left before she calves, so this udder is going to look much, much worse by the time she calves.

ive got a few cows with blind quarters. as long as the calf can figure it out i dont worry about it too much. they still raise a helluva calf with the other 2 or 3.

That they do. This particular cow milks better out of 2 than a lot of 'em do from 4.

However, way her udder is, it's going to end up getting her culled, it's just a matter of time. And due to the volume, it's probably 100 pounds of waste at slaughter, which means she's going to bring significantly less when she is finally sold. No one's going to want to pay for that mess of an udder.

LOL, no - I don't like this one enough to consider it. There's plenty of other 3 and 4 quarter cows out there that milk just as well and don't have that kind of mess of an udder. ;-)

That cow calved last night and that bag is so wide she can barely walk, and there's edema and swelling that extends from her udder almost to her girth; behind the front legs. So imagine that udder above - doubled - and that's what it looks like.

Gave her a shot of Salix tonight to try and take some of that swelling out.
