Thank you, everyone.
Joy, BIG Mama (how on earth did you know her nickname is Fat Mama?) is due around the 13th. Two other cows are due any minute as well, they just don't look as overloaded as she does. (I don't think I like having winter babies, not enough daylight and I've been going out there at 3:30 AM to check the cows, and by the time I get back to sleep, it's about time to get up, yuck.)
Kelly, my only hands-on experience with cattle is with our Dexters. The cows top out around 750# (except for Fat Mama, of course) and bulls around 1000#. Knock on wood (with three due so very soon), I hesitate to say that we've have only had one dystocia (and lost the calf). Most of ours are easy-going and easy-keeping. Not too long ago, I went on a vet call to take some things to my boss where they were working a commercial Hereford/Angus herd and I said, yikes, they're so BIG; everyone laughed and said, no these are "normal" cattle. Some of our adults are about as tall as the full-size breeds' weanlings. So there you have it!
Alice, I thought you might like these little buggers. If ever I need to bottle feed one of them (panic!), you can be sure I'll be PM-ing you every 30 minutes.
GaPrime, you got MrGale's music...nothing like Dueling Banjos at full tilt, huh?
Hoping for three more to arrive without problems...wish us luck! It's nerve-wracking.
