Sold my twin bull calves today therefore as of this moment I'm twin free on the farm. My other cow who has had 2 sets of twin bulls back to back has delivered a single black bull this year, she had about found a ticket to town. I'd hung on to her and had my fingers crossed hoping that she didn't have another set. With both previous sets, the first calf would always be coming backwards and she would need help and once the 1st calf was out of the way the other would come fine. I'm glad I kept her, a nice single black bull born easily out in the pasture is my reward. The sets of twins were fun to fool with and really cute but a lot of work as well. This set today weighed in at 470 and 480 turning 6 months old today. Their dam is still nursing my orphan calf "Buck". She is doing well with him. It was fun watching them swarm her for a drink after their grain feeding. I'll doubt see will miss them much :) . Sorry for not getting a last pic, really wanted to but it has been busy busy around here. I'll try and post prices later on the cattle sale board.

I have 1 twin, an 8 year old cow.. didn't have any twins this year, but had 1 a year for the previous few. I haven't had too much bad luck with twins, but they are hard on the cow. The best thing about them is if they work out, you get a good paycheck (looks like nearly $2400 for the pair around here this year), and they're darned cute to look at

Yeah I like the paycheck the most and twins are always fun to watch but at the same time I don't like having them as often as we have been getting them here. We do always try our best to help raise them because I don't believe in taking babies to the sale barn.

When prices were really bad, we had the mother of a pair of twins turn tits up on us (milk fever perhaps?), and we gave them to a neighboring ranch.. they were white shorthorns, and they really stuck out, but he got them grafted onto some mommas... We couldn't because none of our other cows had calved yet.
I know there's a bunch of cows I have that have a hard enough time keeping track of one baby, let alone 2... 3 years ago I had one of them, a real bag of hammers, and would freak in the crowding pen (bad memories for her), and she had twins in the middle of the night, a rainy night, and she only wanted the first one... I wasn't going to try an convince her otherwise, so I just took the little girl into the shop for the night and filled her belly, the next day I brought her to a cow that had lost hers 3 days earlier, and it was love at first sight, no "O-no-mo" or anything needed, and she went right to sucking... THAT is a relief! Was really too bad she was probably a freemartin, because she was darned nice
