I guess this is just a rant, but do the names of tv channels not mean anything anymore, at least not what they once did?

There was a time when I could turn on the history channel and feel like I had went back in time. Today, it's a bunch of reality show junk, like Pawn stars. I know a lot of people like that show, but why is it on the History channel instead of an Abe Lincoln documentary?

Doesn't AMC stand for American Movie Classics? Then why do they spend all their time showing "The Walking Dead" these days?

I remember the days when CMT was videos, now it's a lot of movies.

I could go on and on, but you get the picture. I'm expecting to turn on the Weather Channel and see a new reality show with Howard Stern, or has that already happened?

I guess that just proves I'm a dinosaur; I don't suppose they would be showing that stuff if it wasn't what most people wanted.

I rarely even turn to the weather channel any more. They have everything but the weather.

It seems like I heard that the owner of the Weather Channel was a victim of a hostile take over. It stinks when someone builds an empire like that and then someone else comes along and either destroys it or changes it.

On January 3, 2008, The Weather Channel and its assets were put up for sale by Landmark Communications. On July 6, 2008, NBC Universal, Bain Capital and Blackstone Group agreed to purchase The Weather Channel from Landmark. If Bain was involved I imagine Landmark was probably having financial problems.

For weather, the internet is better than anything on television.

Almost that way for the news too at times.

I solved the problem. I just don't have TV at all. That way I am not disappointed by what is on. I have a radio with the NOAA weather station which is way better weather report/prediction than any other source.

If you want a pretty good snap shop of what the current conditions are like at selected airports near you, go to usairnet.com You can customize it to show the weather conditions that are important to you.

I finally had to quit it myself. I don't know how many channels we have. Possibly a few hundred. It was just rerun after rerun of the same old crap. I also got tired of seeing immoral behavior being glorified---------right in my own home. It occured to me one day, hey I can stop that.

That's the reson I usually have on directv channel 808, traditional country music. The local radio stations aren;t all that good and I have a fondness for the older stuff that is actaully music

My brother has Roku and stopped his Dish service because he like it so well. I've been thinking about buying it myself.

What's that?

Lots of television shows and movies but they are not first run. The link has more information as I've not actually bought it. Good thing is you buy the unit and hook it up to your computer and it streams programs to you. You don't have a monthly fee to pay other than your Internet service.
