Was out the other day at the site of an old bootlegger's shack which was located about 3 miles from the nearest paved road in the middle of nowhere. His home caved in many years ago and what remains is just a pile of tin and some rotten boards.

While I was looking at the homesite I glanced down and saw what I thought was a coin but it turned out to be the bottom brass of a paper shelled shotgun shell. After cleaning it a bit I could just barely make out some of the writing on the bottom but what really caught my attention was the clear impression of an 8 pointed star around the primer which I thought unique. The brass is pretty worn and my eyes with the aid of a magnifying glass can only make out a few letters.

I was wondering if anyone can help me id the shell with some limited information.

Big thing is the star around the primer.
Above the star I can make out ? ? C Co.
To the right of this is the number 12
To the left of this there is the letter N
At the bottom of star there is some writing but I can only make out the end of the word having the letters U and B.

Anyone know what brand shell this would be?

With the link dead on the UMC, I went Googled UMC Co and found one on the net. (Thanks Kingfisher - been hard without the link you found)

I had thee UMC figured out but didn;t know about the New Club designation. I haven;t seen shotshells with thr star around the primer since we tore foen and friends barn in the late 50s and found a couple of ruined boxes of them, along with a case of dynamite under the floor. Everything was soaking wet and swelled up, couldn;t get the dynamite to explode, dam the luck!

Old piece of history for sure. Probably a good thing the sticks weren't kept dry cause they sometimes get unstable if they sweat too much.

Finding this old shell reminds me I have a collection of old paper shells somewhere around the house. Have to dig around some and see what I can find.

Please report. I think ATF wants that information.

Why is that?

No guestions, peasant. Just report this stockpile of ammo tonight. We have your address. And GPS co-ordinates. Does the word "drone" mean anything to you? :D

No need for the drone. I actually already have my very own ATF agent assigned to me and he has been to see me a time or two. He's a nice guy. Pro-gun too. I have his number in my phone in case I ever need him. He's been real helpful explaining a few things to the less knowledgeable people in other agencies that don't understand my rights as a law abiding citizen who refuses to have his freedoms restrained by mounds of trivial paperwork.
