Got my triticale and peas in the ground today, just in time for the flood. :cry2:

Anybody have any experience with triticale?

I have never planted it
I know a few guys that have and it doesn't seem to produce any better than some of the forage variety Rye's from what I have seen but then again I don't know what their managemnet is either

with the peas it should make alot of tonnage if mother nature cooperates

This was mainly an expirement, had some excess, wet ground not doing anything at the moment. Thought I'd try the triticale for better palatability. Variety = Trical 2700 in a 50/50 blend with Admiral Peas.

Triticale with peas or vetch is great for silage or baleage, but triticale typically isn't the best grazing small grain. It grows rapidly, but regrowth is poor and once it seeds cattle are really reluctant to graze it if given a choice.

If you are going to mow it for hay, you will want to mow the triticale as it heads out or right before. If you wait much longer than that the palatibility and digestibility goes downward in a hurry.

Thanks for all the info! We shall see, but I will bale as baleage. Followed up with some BMR sudex for them to graze on in the summer.
