How long will it take for the price of cattle to trickle up to the equipment MFG's and businesses that we support with our cattle sale dollars. Just wondering. I have spent money even when the prices were twice what they are now that was made somewhere else. Hard to take a loss on cattle you raised. I only have seven purchased in the past of all the cows I own. Did take 1100 for a bull I gave $3500 for two years ago.

What are you expecting to change? Lower prices? No one owes anyone a living. You don't owe the mfg a living and they don't owe you one. They will make adjustments in staffing, etc to balance the books, but dropping prices is not smart business. You will have to find ways to cope with lower prices like everyone else.

The one area you will see a big drop in next year will be bull prices. No one wants to be stuck with a pen full of bulls.

Aaron is right they aren't going to drop prices on anything and will lay off before they do that. I personally buy 99% of my stuff at farm auctions its the way to go for me. Cattle is not my main income and at this point its not income at all I just need them to pay for themselves till prices go up. I lost a fair amount on calves I bought and raised this year and last but I can't eat them all so only thing I can do is adjust my way of business and maintain what I got. I think this price we are seeing is going to be the norm for a few years and anything farm related will remain high and when prices bounce back the equipment will go higher again.

50% of us need to go out of business for prices to come back.. The trick is to be on the right side of the 50%.

I don't buy anything new either, and I have a feeling this new equipment will depreciate faster than the old stuff... With all the computerized crap that is just bound to fail, and take the whole machine down with it, there'll be lots of stuff out there not worth the $3000 computer to fix it

We are one of only a few industries that doesn't set its own price.

Actually we can set our own prices, just not if we haul them to the auction barn.

I don't have the time and energy to fool with that. Plus, people in my area wouldn't pay 50 cents to watch a pisz ant eat a bale of hay by himself.

Lol. Direct marketing is a true talent. Seems to be half the battle marketing the product you've worked hard to produce. I keep an open mind to it when applicable though

CL seems to have the best of the best cattle or it better be as I still see heifers not bred for $2,100 each... I wonder what marketing they use and if some fool buys them.

Do you think they sell @ those prices? I suppose they're worth what someone is willing to pay? Cattle range prices are not far behind and seem to move @ those prices

Farm Diesel is about half from where it was a year or so ago. Fertilizer a little cheaper.

Both are commodities driven by the price of a barrel of oil. The oil companies have been in the boat we're now just climbing into for the past 18 months. The strong will survive.

OPEC is trying their best to slow production and get the price up but greed and need keep getting in the way.
