How many of you folks trich test the bulls. Also how do you determine what cows may be carriers. I do not test and think I might should as a preventive. Most bulls bought have been virgin bulls or at least I hoped they were.
With actual virgin bulls it isn't an issue unless you already have it in the cow herd. In MO for sure and a couple of other states it's mandatory a bull be trich tested before selling. I think the easiest way would be to trich test all bulls after breeding season. If they are clean then so is the cow herd. To be sure of the bulls I would trich test when the BSE is done. In MO it costs 30 bucks for the trich.
We only test if they are over 2 yrs old. It is mandatory here for all bulls over 2. We don't test for it again unless there are unusual circumstances. Cattle running on public land around here should be tested in the fall as it is prevelant in some areas.
