Tree Sale

I am going to have my woods logged. I have 50 Tulip poplar trees approximately 20" diameter that have 32' of straight tree that is harvestable. They are going to give me $100/tree. Does that seem like a reasonable amount. It comes up to $0.25/ board foot. Any thoughts? thanks

I don't follow your math. A two log 20 inch tree is going to have roughly 225 board foot in it. At $100/tree this works out to $444 MBF which is a lot more respectable a price than $250 MBF. Either way, $100 per tree is pretty good.

With current prices I would say that is a good price. Get paid up front and get a contract for what is to be cut. If there is a pulpwood market in your area they should be able to sell a lot of the top as pulpwood and pay you for that also.

That's a very good price for popular. I sold some last fall that did not bring that much.

Hardwood prices and pine pulpwood are high in my area IF you can work them. Two weeks ago there was a run on pine logs but someone dumped a bunch of inventory on the market and prices have fallen. I just hope their wharehouses weren't too big.

Hardwood pulp is way up around here. People paying $10.00 a ton on the stump. Won't last long until prices drop.

Thank you for the replies. This is the first time I have sold trees. I will get a contract and the guy was recommended. I had other estimates so I think I am going to sell it to him.
