For those of you who purchase registered angus, how long is an average turn around time for you in receiving your paperwork after purchase?

Our past experiences have been quick. Getting antsy but feeling like my expectations might be set too high.

Depends on the seller. Sometimes quick, sometimes not. I send the paperwork the day there sold, however sold 1 last June didnt get the papers back to forward to the guy just figured he stored them electronically, not the case at all, they were lost, just found out. So I wish he had called me in 30 days so I could fix it. So a call is not a bad thing if thats what you need to do.

It depends. Did you buy your cattle from a farm or ranch (private party) or at a sale? I know it usually takes at least four weeks to receive the registration papers from a lot of the purebred state-sponsored sales, based on my personal experience.

Ours has been just over two months and counting. My husband and I have either emailed or texted him with no response. Which is what makes me feel a bit more antsy. This was his first inaugural sale and he had close to or right around 50 head to sell. We spoke to another buyer who actually consigned on that sale and he says he hasn't gotten his either. Maybe I'll have him reach out to this man and see what is going on.

I'd stay on him. I can tell you we bought two from a big sale for over $5K each and we haven't received ours and it's been a year. I am less than pleased.

As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change.
That tells me that if they don't care enough for,the customer to do the paperwork promptly then how are they keeping good records of bw, ww, and such. Maybe just making those numbers up as they go along.

Dead on KT, a good responsible breeder always checks back with their customers. Heck some breeders on here even send Christmas and thankyou care packages.

What on earth do you do when you want to register a new calf?

I'd lose my mind, waiting that long!

No Xmas cards or thank you packages but we do have a customer appreciation fireworks show that everyone really enjoys attending. I should consider Christmas cards, very thoughtful gesture that seems to be disappearing.

Good point on records. He did make contact with my husband this past Friday and said we "slipped thru" and he's on top of it now. We shall see.

We send Christmas cards and Thank you letters to each of our customers, although we are a smaller operation and can do that. Customer satisfaction is very important to us and I always try to check at least once with our customers to see how their animal is doing. IMO that shows confidence in your animals which is what we strive for. I also try to transfer paper ASAP after receiving the money, because once they pay and take the animal it is theirs and they rightfully deserve everything that goes with it namely the registration paper.

Yeah, it has been a disaster. We bought them open but they were not cheap. I don't want to give away too much but they were full blooded SAV's coming out of a complete dispersal. We were bidding against Deer Valley if that tells you the quality.

My father is calmer than me and he bought them so it's on him. So far they have produced all females so he has just turned them into recips. Either way, it's not ideal.

Because of that I don't buy at sales where I don't know the people anymore or at least have a good conversation. Some guys are good cattlemen and bad with keeping paperwork. I have no doubt the numbers on these are legit but they are essentially a business loss given that we can't do anything with them in terms of registration.

Was there a sale manager or management group in charge of the sale that you can contact? How about contacting the American Angus Association for help?

That is a good question because I wondered how I'd go about "forcing" transfer. There have to be protections in place.

He's trying to help me with it. I have the guy's cell phone and have been trying to call it.

My thought it that eventually the Angus Association is going to have to go to instant transfers. Get rid of all of the paper certificates and move only to e-filing. It takes all of 30 seconds to transfer. I've just heard of these problems popping up too often for a lot of different reasons.

I went in and changed our registration papers to electronic this morning. Be great if it were all automated that way. I understand you'd need that registration paper in certain circumstances but maybe that could be a specific request.

Although the physical copy, the first registered cow my husband and I bought together, felt good to have in my hands. :)

I certainly understand that. It make sense and yes, I think they should be available for special occasions but I think they should be more commemorative at this point.

I just sold a bull to a guy last week through private treaty and he asked me when I would have the paperwork to him and I told him he already had it. I did it while he was loading him on the trailer. :D

My husband reached out to this gentleman again a few days ago, that man forwarded a screenshot of registration to show it had been completed. Member # and last name were wrong (assume they thru out a new member # since he submitted incorrect spelling). Easy fix on our end. Spoke with Angus Association this morning.

She says we'll receive the paperwork from him with incorrect spelling but in their system, it'll show the correction. That we can have him resubmit the correction but it may be like pulling hairs since they didn't even receive the paperwork till this past Wednesday. 4 months after purchase!

She also stated that since it has been corrected on their end, it wouldn't effect any future transfers, registrations, etc...

FWIW. Just wanted to share our experience. He won't be getting our business again.

We try really hard to get transfer done in a timely manner. I can’t tell you we always succeed. I have been known to miss one, when you transfer papers on one that are stored electronically they send the seller the papers to forward to the new owners. If the new owner stores electronically the association sends the seller a notification that the transfer was completed. At least that is how it works in the Angus association. I have screwed up enough times that I have a pretty good system worked out on processing paperwork now. And since I was foolish enough to say that I will totally screw up the next transaction.

We're all human and mistakes will and can be made. But a bit of customer service goes a long ways. He was hard to get a response from, I felt completely ignored. We farm, we run cows...I know folks like him are busy but there has to be time made for taking care of business. Especially when you're wanting to sell and build a good reputation.
