I shoot a PSE 60lb. draw longbow with Easton aluminum arrows and Magnus Bone Buster 125 grain broadheads. Archery season for deer starts Oct. 1 in Iowa, but there isn't any use in getting really excited until most of the corn gets harvested. I got an archery landowners tag this year again and will get my gear out, checked, and serviced this week. With it getting frosty in the mornings, it's really starting to feel like fall. I love shooting traditional gear and have thought about switching to wood arrows, but I worry about performance and storageability of wood arrows. I have successfully shot the same aluminum arrows for four seasons now, would wood perform the same? I shoot a three finger tab under the knock. 20-25 yards is my comfort zone, but I will shoot at 30 yards if it's a perfect shot, i.e. broadside, deer looking away, no wind, no elevation to figure. I prefer spot and stalk or hunting from a ground blind, but I do have a homemade tree stand that I use as well. I carry an arrow tipped with a field point with me for pheasants or small game that I may come across and it has proven a good idea on many occasions. Archery takes more skill than rifle hunting where you can reach out to over 200 yards and I think traditional archers are a breed apart.
