would you call him gray or blue roan ?

I'd be calling him gray.... Don't blue roans have black heads? I thought in general that the body would roan out but the head stayed darker along with the points. I had a bay-roan and his head stayed solid bay with black points.

Yep! :tiphat: and looks like he's dappled to boot! A side view would be better!

Also where ever a roan horse is injured like a bit mark or scrape, the hair will grow in dark (the base color).

This is a blue roan (also called a black roan)

A lot of horses are incorrectly registered as roan when they are really gray. We have a gray horse that is red based. She was born a chestnut color.
