To Heavy To Pull?

Has anyone ever had a load that was to heavy for their truck to pull? Any experiences are greatly appreciated.

"Too heavy" is loosely defined. I've pulled some loads that I felt were too heavy, but the next guy does it on a daily basis. I hauled 15 bred heifers on my gooseneck once. Powerstroke would only get up to 60 MPH with the turbo singing out loud so I dropped down to 55 and held her in 4th gear. Too heavy in my opinion. Should've been about 14000 in cattle, another 4000 in the trailer itself, and 9000 in the truck for a grand total of 27,000 which puts one over the legal limit without a CDL.

I've gotta go along with DR. I've hauled loads that I shouldn't have, several times. But a load that the truck couldn't move, other then trying to pull out a tree I've never had the problem.

Thanks guys, these are just the kind of experiences that I'm looking for.

I've also had some experience where I've had to pull loads over the CDL requirement. I'm just trying to find out how much over other guys have pulled and if anyone has ever had an experence where their truck couldn't do it or had problems. Thanks,

Back when I was younger and cheaper, we used to pretty regularly over load truck/trailers with steel pipe from OK and haul it back for fencing jobs. Two trips would most times take out any profit in the job. Now I insist on delivery and pass the cost on to the customer, or let customer arrange for delivery.

One friend moved a mobile home with his Ford F450 SD 460 5 speed. I thought that was impressive until another one used about a '69 Ford F250 with the 360 and granny 4-speed to move his!

Greenherefords my wife has kinfolks just like your "friends". You sure those arent inlaws instead?LOL They get kicked out of ever place they try to live. Just hook up thier houses and go to another spot. LOL

Nope, the first one was doing it for a friend, and the other is a fine, upstanding young man that I trained to replace me at my old job. I still meet him and other old co-workers across town for coffee at a cafe several times a week.

Just because you no longer work with someone doesn't mean that your friendship has to diminish. I'm still on great terms with my old boss.(He tried to get me to stay, but what do you do when your own brother is wanting to hire you into an air conditioned shop when you're used to working in the heat..etc.) I still do some specialty work on the side for them, like the wood hood that suspended from the ceiling over the stove in the island. Or when one of the old boss's sons is wanting to produce a set of cabinets on the side in one Saturday's work.

Anyway, this cafe has some awesome Cains restaurant blend coffee, and a good biscuit and gravy. If someone is running low on funds, one of the others will pick up his tab.
