We had three HEIFERS :D born the past three days! The second one born on Saturday was backwards & upside down. My husband flipped it over & we hand pulled it backwards. She was a little more tired than the others, but sucked mom & was outdoors next day. All three were Macho heifers.
Have a cow that we bought was due on the 29th, nothing yet, so we induced her last night because we are leaving on the 5th to go to KILE, Harrisburg, Pa show. Hate to induce, but don't have anyone to check while we're gone (well noone that I would want to calf out a problem).
Inducing usually makes them retain placenta - which in turn makes it longer to recycle, but calving this time of year, I don't care if it takes her longer.
Just makes me nervous, hate interfering with "mother nature".

congrats on the 3 new heifer calves.i know that just makes your day.to help keep them from retaining afterbirth.give her a 5 gal buccket of warm water.an that should help her slickout.scott

Congrats Jeanne to the cows and you~!!

Add some Vermont Maple Syrup to that warm bucket of water for an added boost. :D

Jeezum crow,

Almost forgot ....

Could you post some photos of the calves when you get a chance ?

Thanks for the tips - but she calved last night, no problems, cleaned right away ----- and ---- IT'S A HEIFER!
Four heifers in four days. WOW.
Now we're done til, one due end of this month & one due end of next month. Of course than we start our real calving season end of January.
These last 3 cows were purchased. This last heifer was a Preferred Beef, who is a "hot" bull that semen is limited Full sister brought $4300 in Blockbuster Sale last April. Cow & calf entered ring - selling "choice". We were bidding for the cow & dropped out - the top bidder chose the calf, so we bid again on the cow & got her for less bred the same way. It wasn't even a purchase by a junior for a show calf. Amazes me that the pass up the factory. Even if she had a bull calf, I feel I'm money ahead buying the factory.
